About Us

The Momentum 4 Life. (M4L) concept was created by Dawn Schroeder- a mom, wife, teacher, athlete in Santa Barbara, CA. Combining her strengths in leadership, athletics and education, she had a desire to help others and give back to the community, so was born- Momentum 4 Life! M4L provides a structure for motivation, support and success!

M4L helps form teams of individuals who want to challenge themselves, train for an athletic event and give back to the community. Teams may consist of groups of women, men, co-ed or children. Teams may want to train for triathlons, biathlons, 5K, 10K, half or full marathons.

Who’s Who: Trainers for M4L!

Richard Schroeder – Two-time Olympic Gold Medallist in Swimming ’84 and ’88 is on the deck (and in a kayak on the ocean) as a M4L swim coach giving swimming technique advice that is Olympic quality. Rich immensely enjoys being part of the dramatic improvements that the swimmers in M4L make each year. You are sure to improve your swimming with the very best!

Gregg Wilson – Head Swim Coach of the UCSB Men and Women. Gregg is the most winning coach in the Big West Collegiate Division- 23 consecutive titles! Also, on the pool deck to assist with our M4L swimmers are UCSB assistant coaching staff and the women swimmers. There is no better coaching around! You will learn to swim better from the best!

Dayna Jordan – with 23 years of personal training experience, multiple marathon completions, and too numerous to count other multi-sport events under her belt, Dayna has a wealth of knowledge to pass on to M4L members at the track. Dayna believes that fitness is a life-long journey that can be started at any point in one’s life.

Dawn Schroeder – founder of M4L and organizer of M4L SB, Dawn shares her talents in swimming as an Olympic Trial Qualifier(’84 and ’88) and Master’s National Finalist( 2000-2003). Dawn also has competed in multiple triathlons, 5K, 10K, 15K runs, half and full marathons over the past 15 years. She has her coaching certification from UCSB.

Marcie Kjoller – An All American standout swimmer and NCAA & Olympic Trail Qualifier, and Master’s National Finalist from UCSB, Marcie is on the pool deck coaching swimmers and keeping the MOMENTUM high with her infectious, positive energy. In addition to working with the M4L, training herself for her 5th SB Sprint Triathlon, she will be spear heading the M4L Kid’s Triathlon Training Camp!

Marcella Young – My personal philosophy as a new coach is straight forward “ I want to help all athletes learn, grow and have fun while improving their health and fitness through training and racing performance.” Registered Nurse, Competing in triathlons and marathons since 1999. Hawaii Ironman 2003 finisher, World’s Long Course in Sweden 2004 finisher. Currently organizing a Youth program for “Momentum4Life “in Santa Barbara and Tri coach for “Momentum4Life”.

Lorraine Vanhecke – Philosophy of Coaching: Coaching is an opportunity to reach out and encourage others to believe in themselves. When you are in a position to influence someone, being a positive role model is imperative. Coaching gives me the chance to give back to others in the same way that I have received positive reinforcement in the past. Seeing someone improve and believe in themselves is one of the most rewarding experiences. I am excited to be coaching for Momentum 4 Life!

Charise Bacchus is the fitness director at Cathedral Oaks Athletic Club and Head girl’s soccer coach at Dos Pueblos High School. Charise brings to M4L substantial knowledge of overall fitnesss to the process of creating complete, fully integrated, individualized exercise prgrams for clients with a wide-range of needs. Positive, powerful and energetic, Charise is inspired by providing a clear path toward a fitness goal. Her message to M4L- ” Have fun, stay positive, be motivated by something bigger than yourself and your body will take shape. Train hard and you will be hard to beat. Have a great season!”

Perry Lieber – I believe that good nutrition is the key to success no matter what a person is training for. My goal as a trainer is to help my clients succeed in whatever task they set forth to accomplish. I, personally, train for multiple sports and constantly change my goals and activities; so I have the experience to help others through my experience and mistakes.

    Trying to get a hold of Dayna….I am getting re-certified by NASM by mid-May and wondered if you needed any part-time help this summer with momentum ladies.
